Play with projections

February 9, 2018

Still feeling weak from the flu but feeling a little better, I set out to try some gentle work continuing on with my projector experiments. I wanted to try projecting onto different materials on top of water.i had ideas of using dust, skin hair or feathers. I initially tried setting up the projector in the shower choosing to have it angled down, into the tray at the bottom of the shower. From here I filled it with water and scattered a layer of dust and dirt on the surface curious to see how this would effect the image. Results weren’t all that interesting, however I think I would have liked it more with a finer layer of dust on the surface. After this I tried a layer of charcoal powder which gained some better results, as I had suspected the blackness in the water made the surface highly reflective so parts of the image bounce back. Other more sediment bits of charcoal powder that floated on top of the water would project parts of the image. This created a back and forth between the image projected and the image reflected. I found the qualities of the charcoal water mysterious and seductive, there's something almost witchy about it.
