On Friday I followed up my earlier ideas about placing my work in the bathroom. I had the idea to project onto the glass on my shower. The shower is a unit that contains the naked human form, one in which we use to rid ourselves of hair, dirt, grease and sweat. I was fascinated with the the thin film of grim on the inside of the glass of the shower it is made up of all of the bodies sheddings and shower products and water minerals condensed and settled on the transparent glass. The film begins to alter the qualities of the glass it's no longer as see through as it once was, the body behind it is partially concealed and blurred by it. I wanted to project on this surface as I was curious how the image would distort on a semi transparent surface. I cheated a little at some point and added some DIY grime to the glass, using a mixture of flour water and condition to apple a convincing layer of grubbiness to the glass surface. It did in fact project onto the surface but only partially this created a conversation between the image that cast through the glass and projected on the back of the white shower wall and the slightly transparent glass projection, just like an overlay on photoshop. I really like the was it was so blurred and imperfict, there and not there, clouded and unsure. I occainally would try and insert my own body into the shower but I found this made it too physical and literal.
I also tested out the various ways in which I could project on water, this as an idea was another way of creating a there and no there semi transparent surface for the pig body. I had the idea to scatter flour into water to create a more opaque surface. It worked pretty well tomorrow I will test this out in our bath tub.
