Helping animation students with prosthetic makeup.

November 10, 2017

On Friday I collaborated with some animation students! this work is oddly relevant to my practise...I think? The animation students are making a fascinating inspired set with filled with jars holding mutated, moving, body parts. They will use visual effects to make the body parts appear to look detached and float inside the jars, the gore and mutations however, is where I come in! I will be helping the students create all sorts of abject body parts and mutations over the year, in return they can help me with any effects I come up with in my own work!  Since the work is inspired by old school horror in films I though it would be sort of relevant as my own work came from similar origins.

Working on set with a crew of animators, in a film studio was fascinating. Being on fine art I rarely see technical processes like this. I really liked working in a team with others too. This opens my mind to possibilities after uni, imagine creating experimental films with crews instead of just me. Today I created a disgusting 6th finger on a hand and some flaking skin out of latex ! I am a total novice at this stuff but I think it came alright.
